Day 1 – Welcome to Japan! Tokyo's neon lights, legendary food & your first night together

Welcome to Tokyo! Arrive at Narita (NRT) or Haneda (HND) and transfer to your hotel. Our adventure officially kicks off at 5:00 PM in the hotel lobby with a welcome orientation and your first chance to meet the Gagago crew.

Evening: Shinjuku Food & Izakaya Crawl

Once the crew is together, we're heading straight into Shinjuku, where glowing neon signs and towering skyscrapers bring Tokyo to life after dark. Together with your local guide, you'll explore atmospheric backstreets, bustling food alleys, and the lantern-lit world of traditional Japanese izakayas.

Sample local favorites like sizzling yakitori, discover Japan's iconic drinking and dining culture, and break the ice with a small group of travelers who are just as excited to explore as you are. It's the perfect first night to share delicious bites, swap travel stories, and start making memories together.

Day 2 – Ancient traditions, legendary Japanese food & an unforgettable sumo experience

From iconic temples and bustling food markets to the excitement of Japan's national sport, today is your introduction to the Japan you've always dreamed of experiencing.

We'll start in Asakusa, home to Senso-ji, one of Tokyo's most iconic temples. Walk beneath the enormous red lantern at Kaminarimon Gate, explore the traditional shops and food stalls along Nakamise Street, and sample Japanese treats as we discover the charm of old Tokyo.

Next, we'll head to Tsukiji Outer Market, a paradise for food lovers. Wander through lively market lanes, discover authentic Japanese specialties and taste some of the country's delicious street food, from fresh seafood to savory tamagoyaki. This is your chance to experience Japanese food culture beyond the restaurant table!

After lunch, enjoy some free time to discover more of Tokyo at your own pace. Dive into the anime, gaming and electronics universe of Akihabara, or immerse yourself in the incredible digital art installations at teamLab Planets or teamLab Borderless.

Later in the afternoon, we'll reunite for a truly unforgettable sumo show and experience. Get closer to Japan's centuries-old wrestling tradition, discover the rituals and techniques behind this fascinating sport, and witness the incredible strength and skill of sumo wrestlers up close.

Day 3 – Tokyo's coolest neighborhoods, Japanese street culture & iconic city views

From peaceful forest shrines and colorful fashion streets to the electric energy of the world's busiest pedestrian crossing, discover the many personalities that make Tokyo unforgettable.

We'll begin at Meiji Jingu, a beautiful Shinto shrine tucked inside a peaceful forest in the heart of Tokyo. Walk beneath towering torii gates and along tranquil forest paths, experiencing a quieter, more traditional side of Japan before diving back into the city's energy.

Next, we'll explore Harajuku, Tokyo's famous hub of youth culture, fashion and creativity. Stroll along colorful Takeshita Street, browse quirky boutiques, discover unique Japanese fashion and treat yourself to one of the neighborhood's famous sweet creations. It's a fun glimpse into a side of Japan you won't find in the temples!

Then we'll make our way to Shibuya, where you'll experience the legendary Shibuya Crossing. Watch thousands of people cross from every direction, surrounded by giant screens, neon lights and the unmistakable energy of modern Tokyo. Take photos, explore the surrounding streets and enjoy one of the city's most iconic scenes with your Gagago crew.

Want to take the adventure even further? Once our scheduled group activities wrap up, you can choose to add a little more excitement to your Tokyo experience:

Street go-kart adventure: Get behind the wheel and experience Tokyo's streets in a uniquely memorable way (advance booking and valid driving documents required).

SHIBUYA SKY: Head up to one of Tokyo's most spectacular observation decks for breathtaking panoramic views of the city, especially around sunset.

Day 4 – From Tokyo to Mt. Fuji: iconic views, breathtaking landscapes & a taste of traditional Japan

Leave Tokyo's buzzing streets behind and discover one of Japan's most breathtaking landscapes, where mountain scenery, traditional villages and unforgettable views await.

We'll depart Tokyo and head toward the spectacular Mount Fuji region, home to Japan's most recognizable natural landmark.

Chureito Pagoda & Mount Fuji

Our first stop is the iconic Chureito Pagoda in Shimoyoshida, one of Japan's most photographed locations. Climb the steps to the famous viewpoint, where the elegant five-story pagoda frames the magnificent Mount Fuji in the distance. It's one of those picture-perfect Japanese scenes you've probably seen countless times, and now you'll get to experience it yourself!

Discover Kawaguchiko

Continue to the beautiful Lake Kawaguchi area, one of the Fuji Five Lakes, where spectacular mountain scenery and peaceful lakeside surroundings create a completely different atmosphere from Tokyo.

Enjoy some free time to take in the views, explore the area and capture those unforgettable Mount Fuji photos, weather permitting.

A Traditional Japanese Stay

Tonight, we'll check into a Japanese-style accommodation and experience a different side of Japan. Unwind after a day of exploring and enjoy the unique atmosphere of this beautiful mountain destination.

Day 5 – Oshino Hakkai, traditional Japanese villages & the journey to Kyoto

Discover the peaceful countryside surrounding Mount Fuji before boarding Japan's famous bullet train to the ancient capital of Kyoto.

Morning: Oshino Hakkai

We'll start the day at Oshino Hakkai, a picturesque traditional village famous for its eight crystal-clear spring ponds fed by Mount Fuji's snowmelt.

Wander through charming traditional houses, discover the beautiful ponds and explore local food stalls selling Japanese specialties, snacks and souvenirs. With its peaceful atmosphere and spectacular mountain backdrop, this is a wonderful opportunity to experience a more traditional side of Japan.

Journey to Kyoto

After exploring the village, we'll make our way toward Mishima to catch Japan's famous Shinkansen bullet train to Kyoto.

Get comfortable and enjoy the experience of traveling aboard one of the world's most renowned high-speed rail systems as we head to Japan's former imperial capital.

Evening: Gion & Pontocho

After checking into our Kyoto hotel, we'll head out to discover the atmosphere of Gion, Kyoto's famous historic district.

Walk through traditional streets lined with beautiful wooden machiya houses before exploring Pontocho Alley, a charming lantern-lit street filled with restaurants and traditional Japanese architecture.

It's the perfect introduction to Kyoto and its incredible food culture.

We'll continue exploring Higashiyama, one of Kyoto's most picturesque historic districts.

Kiyomizu-dera Temple: Discover one of Japan's most celebrated Buddhist temples, famous for its impressive wooden terrace and panoramic views over Kyoto.
Sannenzaka & Ninenzaka: Wander through beautiful stone-paved streets lined with traditional wooden buildings, little shops, cafés and Japanese sweets.

Fushimi Inari Taisha

We'll start the day at Fushimi Inari Taisha, one of Japan's most famous and photographed shrines.

Walk through thousands of vibrant red torii gates that wind up the forested slopes of Mount Inari. This unforgettable pathway creates one of the most iconic scenes in Japan and offers incredible photo opportunities along the way.

Arashiyama Bamboo Grove

Next, we'll head to Arashiyama, a beautiful district on Kyoto's western outskirts.

Walk through the famous Bamboo Grove, where towering bamboo stalks create an almost otherworldly atmosphere.

We'll also explore the surrounding area:

Tenryu-ji Temple: Discover beautiful traditional Japanese gardens and historic architecture.

We'll finish our sightseeing at Kinkaku-ji, Kyoto's spectacular Golden Pavilion.

Admire the iconic gold-covered temple reflected in its peaceful surrounding pond, framed by beautifully landscaped Japanese gardens. It's one of Japan's most recognizable landmarks and a perfect final highlight of our Kyoto adventure.

Day 8 – Meet Japan's famous deer in Nara & discover Osaka's food scene

From centuries-old temples and friendly free-roaming deer to Osaka's colorful streets and legendary street food, today brings another unforgettable side of Japan.

Morning: Nara Park & Its Famous Deer

We'll leave Kyoto and make our way to Nara, a historic city famous for its beautiful temples, traditional streets and hundreds of free-roaming deer.

Visit Nara Park, where these famous residents roam freely throughout the grounds. Get up close, feed them special deer crackers and experience one of Japan's most unique wildlife encounters.

Todai-ji Temple

Continue to Todai-ji, one of Japan's most impressive Buddhist temples.

Step inside the enormous wooden Great Buddha Hall and admire the gigantic bronze Buddha statue, one of the largest in Japan.

Kasuga Taisha Shrine

We'll also visit Kasuga Taisha, a beautiful Shinto shrine surrounded by forest and famous for its thousands of stone and bronze lanterns.

If time allows, enjoy a stroll through Naramachi, Nara's charming historic merchant district, filled with traditional houses, little shops and cafés.

Welcome to Osaka!

After exploring Nara, we'll continue to Osaka, Japan's vibrant food capital, famous for its energetic atmosphere, incredible street food and nightlife.

Check into our hotel and enjoy some free time before heading out for our final evening together.

Gagago Farewell Dinner – Shinsekai

It's time to celebrate all the incredible memories we've made throughout our Japan adventure!

We'll explore Shinsekai, one of Osaka's most distinctive neighborhoods, known for its retro atmosphere, colorful signs and iconic Tsutenkaku Tower.

Discover the local food scene and try Osaka specialties such as kushikatsu, delicious deep-fried skewers that are a local favorite.

Gather for a final group dinner, share your favorite moments and toast to an unforgettable adventure through Japan!

Travelers with later flights can enjoy some additional sightseeing, shopping or food experiences:

Osaka Castle: Discover one of Japan's most famous castles, explore its impressive grounds and enjoy the surrounding park.
Umeda Sky Building: Take in spectacular panoramic views of Osaka from the Floating Garden Observatory.

WHERE DOES THE TRIP START & FINISH?

The trip starts in Tokyo and ends in Osaka.

WHICH AIRPORT DO I NEED TO FLY INTO AND OUT FROM?

For the most convenient option, we recommend booking your arrival flight into Tokyo (Haneda – HND or Narita – NRT) and your departure flight from Osaka (Kansai International Airport – KIX).

Our adventure starts in Tokyo and ends in Osaka, so booking a multi-city (open-jaw) flight saves you from having to backtrack.

Can I fly round-trip from Tokyo instead? Absolutely! If you find a better deal flying in and out of Tokyo, you can take the Shinkansen (bullet train) from Osaka back to Tokyo. The journey takes approximately 2.5–3 hours, so just make sure to allow enough time before your international departure.

WHAT IS THE GROUP SIZE FOR EACH TRIP?

We cap groups at a maximum of 12 travelers.

This keeps the experience personal, flexible, and far from the rushed, crowded feel of typical group tours.

WHAT KIND OF ACCOMMODATION IS INCLUDED ON THIS TRIP?

We stay in carefully selected, highly rated 4- and 5-star accommodations throughout the trip. Hotel styles may vary depending on the destination and local experience, rather than maintaining the exact same hotel category at every stop.

Rooms are standard and shared with fellow travelers of the same gender, typically 2–3 people per room with twin or single beds.

Some hotels may have different bed configurations (for example, one larger bed and one single bed). In these cases, guests are expected to rotate fairly throughout the trip so everyone has an equal experience.

Traveling with a friend, partner, or family member? Let us know in advance and we’ll do our best to place you together.

Prefer your own space? Private room upgrades are available for an additional fee of $750. Availability is limited, so we recommend booking in advance. Requests to change room arrangements during the trip are subject to availability and additional cost.

Please note: our trips prioritize experience and location over luxury consistency. If having the same hotel standard at every stop is important to you, this trip may not be the best fit.

IS THIS TRIP OPEN TO ALL GENDERS?

Yes. Our trips are open to all genders.

Room assignments are based on same-gender sharing. Solo female travelers are paired at no additional cost. Solo male travelers are paired when another male traveler is available; if no pairing is possible, a single-room supplement will apply.

All room arrangements are confirmed prior to final payment.

HOW DO I PAY FOR THE TRIP?

Book your spot with a $300 deposit, then pay the remaining balance 90 days before the trip or in flexible installments. The full trip must be paid prior to departure.

WHEN IS THE DEADLINE TO JOIN THIS TRIP?

There is no fixed calendar deadline to join this trip, and registration may close at any time once capacity is reached. You can secure your spot instantly with a deposit.

To maintain a high-quality experience, we intentionally limit this trip to a maximum of 12 travelers. We also partner with carefully selected hotels and experiences that have limited availability, which means registration may close before the group reaches its maximum size.

Most of our travelers book as soon as they learn about the trip. Booking early not only helps secure your place on the trip, but also gives you ample time to request time off, plan ahead, and access the best flight options and pricing before departure. If this trip is on your list, we recommend reserving your spot early to avoid disappointment.

IS MY MONEY PROTECTED?

Yes, your money is safe! If the trip is canceled by us, including due to not meeting the minimum participant requirement by the deadline (typically three months before the trip), you'll receive a full refund.

CANCELLATION POLICY

We understand plans can change. A $300 non-refundable deposit secures your spot. You may cancel within 72 hours of booking, and any payments made beyond the deposit will be fully refunded. DO YOU ASSIST WITH VISAS?

We do not handle visa arrangements. However, we’re happy to help you gather information about visa requirements based on your nationality for your chosen destination, ensuring you have a clear understanding of what’s needed.

IS TRAVEL INSURANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS TRIP?

Yes, we strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance that covers cancellation, personal injury, medical and repatriation expenses, evacuation, personal liability, and loss of personal property before traveling with us. We can also recommend travel insurance options based on your country of residence to ensure you're fully covered. Make sure your policy also covers any activities you'll be participating in, especially adventure or high-risk activities, for all the adrenaline junkies out there!

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

April is a lovely time to visit Japan, with mild spring temperatures and beautiful seasonal scenery. However, the weather can vary between Tokyo, Mt. Fuji, Kyoto, and Osaka.

Expect daytime temperatures around 15–22°C (59–72°F), with cooler mornings and evenings, especially around Mt. Fuji.

We recommend packing:

Comfortable walking shoes – we'll be doing plenty of exploring!
Lightweight layers, such as T-shirts, sweaters, and cardigans.
A light jacket or trench coat for cooler mornings and evenings.
Comfortable pants, jeans, and versatile outfits for sightseeing.

Our best advice: Pack layers and comfortable shoes. You'll want to look cute while being ready for a full day of adventure! 🇯🇵

ITINERARY NOTES ***

Luggage restrictions on Japan's bullet trains (Shinkansen)

Japan's Shinkansen trains have specific luggage size restrictions. The total dimensions of your suitcase (length + width + height) must be considered.

Up to 160 cm (63 inches): No advance reservation is required. Luggage can generally be stored in the overhead racks or designated luggage areas.
161–250 cm (64–98 inches): You must reserve a seat with an oversized baggage area when traveling on applicable Shinkansen routes. There is generally no additional charge for this reservation.
Over 250 cm (98 inches): Not permitted onboard.

We strongly recommend traveling with a carry-on-sized suitcase (up to 160 cm in total dimensions) and a small daypack or backpack for daily excursions.

Please measure your luggage before departure and remember that you'll be responsible for handling and storing your own bags during train journeys.

WHAT IS THE CURRENCY?

Japan's official currency is the Japanese Yen (JPY / ¥).

Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in major cities, hotels, and restaurants, but Japan is still a cash-friendly destination, and some smaller restaurants, local shops, and traditional establishments may only accept cash.

We recommend:

Bringing a debit or credit card with no foreign transaction fees.
Carrying some Japanese Yen for smaller purchases, street food, and local experiences.
Withdrawing cash from ATMs at 7-Eleven or Japan Post, which are convenient options for international travelers.

You don't need to exchange a large amount before arriving. You can easily withdraw Japanese Yen once you're in Japan!

DO YOU HAVE AN AGE LIMIT FOR TOURS?

Our tours are designed for adventurous travelers aged 18 to 45, with most guests typically between 21 and 35 years old. However, anyone with a sense of adventure is welcome, as long as they are 18 or older!
